wex photo video

context:

Five years as senior designer at Wex Photo Video, one of the UK’s largest specialist camera retailers. Working across every touchpoint; campaign graphics, exhibition design, social assets, print advertising, web design and a full icon library used across the entire site. The challenge of in-house design is making commercial work that still has something to say. These are some of the better moments.

deliverables:

Layout design
Exhibition design
Print advertising

Quarterly Zine for Wex Photo Video as part of their #ChangeTheImage (CTI) campaign. CTI shines the spotlight on smaller / under-represented photographic and creative communities including Women in the Industry and Photography as a therapeutic tool.

This issue was focused on Photography as a tool for change and showcased work that had a significant social or political impact, including photography from the frontlines of conflict, to photographs that changed the law.

For Wex’s annual winter sale campaign, I put together a unique illustration set. A) to capture the sheer chaos of the period, and B) to stand out in a sea of competitor liveries.

The design showed the range of products on offer, adding a little bit of levity to a sales heavy period.

A social set for a new product launch, the Nikon Z9.

A real game-changer of a camera, this design was meant to capture the energy, and power, of the product. Evoking flames  with a striking orange palette - the assets led to a lot of attention online (they were even copied by other retailers).

Ever year Wex does a trade show called The Photography and Video Show. Every yeah they need graphics. For this years show I focussed on the aspirational side of Wex. The show itself is heavily sales based, so working in beautiful imagery can be a challenge, but this 12m wrap around design stood out in the hall it was being displayed with it’s simple messaging and bold visuals.

Shop frontage for Wex Photo Video Glasgow as it moved location.

In the world of retail, it’s important to announce your presence and get peoples attention. I didn’t want to mince words with this design, telling people exactly what they needed to know and nothing else.

The design was printed on panels for a storefront spanning over 20 metres and was in place over several weeks. The Glasgow store opening was one of Wex’s most successful too.

When I joined Wex Photo Video I was taked with creating a visual style for all iconography across the site - over the next few year I created a large library of icons that kept the style of Wex consistent acorss multiple touch points.
